Uganda, Africa

In the year of 2003, John Gish and a team of men went to Kabale, Uganda, after the Gideons informed him that there was a need for a church and a school. The school at the time was about 80 children.

Plant a Seed continues to support many projects such as the Chapel that was built in 2005, Sponsored Students, Irrigation and Farm House in 2009, Protein for a Lifetime in 2011, The Green House Initiative Coleman in 2025, and God's Favor, which has a chapel being built in the local orphanage in Kabale, Uganda.

Kabale Trinity College

Plant-A-Seed Foundation has had an incredible journey in the country of Uganda, Kabale, Uganda.

In the year 0f 2003, John Gish and a team of men went to Kabale, Uganda, after the Gideons informed him that there was a need for a church and a school. The school at the time was about 80 children.

Brethren Community Fellowship, with the help of a team of men, went and scouted the area for the placement of a chapel. The BCF church along with Plant a Seed Foundation, built the chapel, (seats 1,500) and purchased the property it was built on.

From this time on, Plant a Seed purchased some additional property and built a school over the next three years. Plant a Seed also sent teams over to assist, plan, and build the school, dorms, and additional needed quarters for the staff. There are 1,500 students that are enrolled in the classes at KTC. (Kabale Trinity College)

In 2011 we installed solar panels in order to pump water to the school’s holding tanks. Team members worked tirelessly to install this equipment so that KTC’s three 5,000 gallon water tanks will no longer stand half full of dirty rainwater, but will be filled to the brim with clean water. The school now uses these water tanks for laundry, cooking, and drinking.

As of 2026 the current projects in that are being worked on are the Dining Hall and Boys Dorm for Kabale Trinity College.

Plant A Seed Foundation offers the opportunity to sponsor a student for $550 a year to cover academic and living expenses.  This cost is billed annually for 4 to 6 years. This allows the student to complete Kabale Trinity School and change his life and community forever.

The Farm

In 2007 Plant a Seed purchased 20 acres of land and established a farm which grows bananas, pineapples, and corn. There were also some goats purchased for the purpose of having meat for school lunches. This farm has given the Kabale Trinity College School a real boost in the children’s daily diets, as well as additional income for the operational costs of the school.

In the summer of 2007, there was presented a real need to dig a well. We wanted to build the well during the wet season and pump water up to planned holding tanks. The purpose was to store and then use the water in the dry season. This would help with watering summer crops.

“Logistically” the project required prayer, thought, and engineering. The distance and the degree of slope to the top of the hill were over miles away with a 33-degree slope.

Plant a Seed Foundation sent a team in 2008 to increase the farm’s ability for more production, by building a new irrigation project. Through a lot of prayers, the team came up with ideas of how we could conquer this challenge, which seemed to be impossible to the local people of the region. It has tripled the production as well as giving the neighbors in that vicinity the privilege of purchasing water from the farms pumping resources. Plant a Seed has also finished building a home for the individuals that supervises the farm operation.

With the help of Nexus Engineering in Modesto, a plan was drafted.

Now all we needed was the funding, resources, and people to help us solve a challenge that we know the Lord had laid on our hearts.

Romans 8.28 states: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, and who are called according to his purpose.”

With that promise, the Lord put together a team and opened doors that we could have only imagined. We were even able to fund a receiving house for students to come, stay, work, and learn. These students could then take what they had learned back to their own villages. It was an opportunity to help local students understand simple farming practices and bring more food to their table.

Today, the farm in Africa has in production coffee, bananas, peas, corn, pineapple, and now a couple of beef cattle. Farm production as gone up over 30% with the abundance of water.

During the summer of 2011, a team of 15 people traveled to Uganda, Africa, and undertook a unique challenge; the project was called “Protein for a Lifetime.”

The team set out to build a chicken house for a farm operated by Kabale Trinity College (KTC). The group spent nine days working at the farm using equipment and methods that were very often different from those we were accustomed to in the United States. For example, the local workers carried bowls of cement from the hand-mixed pile to the location where we were laying the foundation of the chicken house.

The Team also met with a local chicken supplier and purchased chicks along with thirty 50 lb. bags of feed. As of April 2026, the chicken house is producing over 900 eggs a day! For the students of KTC breakfast now provides a lot more protein, which is a rare commodity in Africa.

The Team also participated in a very exciting event: a celebration of welcoming a brand new Massey Ferguson 435 2-wheel drive tractor, donated and delivered by the Agco Corporation. Along with the tractor came a new plow and adjustable disc. This machinery was widely anticipated by the community of Kabale because it is the first tractor to be utilized in the region. It is now being used to cultivate the land for the crops which help feed the students and also the surplus food now being sold at the Farmers Market. All the proceeds help support the school. Later we added a shed for the tractor and a milling station for the corn.

2011 Team: Erica Austin, Ashley Coleman, Dixie Daily, Jeff Duarte, Conner Enz, John Franzia, Gabby Gini, Allen Grant, Rick Gray, Levi Heinrich, Jennifer Luna, Ben Meikle, Sandy Nelson, Steve Nelson, Sara Pimintel, Cortney Reagan, Jeff Ribeiro and Gary Stewart.

In 2025 The Coleman Green House Initiative added 7 greenhouses on the farm for more vegetables.

Gods's Favor Orphange

Currently, there are over 700 children being served by God's Favour School and Ministry. 165 of these children are orphans, while many of the other 535 come from single-parent homes. All of them face insecurity and danger on a regular basis in their poverty-stricken community.
